My Specialism in School Improvement
My specialism in school improvement is centred on helping schools identify what is working well, understand what needs to change, and develop clear, sustainable pathways for improvement. I work with leaders at all levels to strengthen provision, build professional confidence and support meaningful development that is rooted in the specific context of each school.
My approach is reflective, evidence-informed and practical. I support schools to look carefully at the quality of education, leadership, curriculum, pedagogy, inclusion, assessment, professional development and culture. Rather than applying a generic model, I work alongside leaders to understand their priorities, explore the realities of day-to-day practice, and shape improvement work that is purposeful, manageable and impactful.
A key part of my school improvement work is supporting leaders to move beyond surface-level actions and focus on the conditions that enable lasting change. This includes developing shared understanding, strengthening staff expertise, improving consistency, refining systems and ensuring that improvement priorities are clearly connected to outcomes for children. I help schools ask the right questions, interpret evidence thoughtfully and translate strategic aims into practical action.
My work can include leadership coaching, curriculum review, learning walks, environment audits, staff training, professional dialogue, action planning and support with self-evaluation. I bring both support and challenge, helping schools celebrate their strengths while also identifying areas where practice can be developed further.
I am particularly skilled at connecting strategic leadership with classroom reality. Effective school improvement depends on understanding how policy, vision and planning are experienced by staff and children in everyday practice. My consultancy helps leaders bridge this gap so that improvement is not simply written into documents, but lived across the school.
