Been in another new school today, writing a Reception curriculum tailored just for them — grounded in rigour, but full of joy.
Will it help children know and remember more?
Yes.
Close gaps?
Yes.
Child agency?
Absolutely.
75% GLD?
That’s the minimum expectation.
But here’s what really mattered: creativity, laughter, and connection — for the teacher as much as the children.
This is what I want for EYFS teachers everywhere: ambitious, joyful learning.
